    Description

      • Upgrade Maven plugins to versions that require Java 17 (compiler, surefire, javadoc, spotless, jacoco, bnd) and drop the activeByDefault profile juggling that exists only for the Java 8 build.
      • Reduce the CI matrix to Java 17 and 21 plus the latest GA JDK (currently 25), on the same MariaDB and MySQL server set as today.
      • Run surefire against the built jar rather than the classes directory, so module resolution and manifest headers are tested; this closes the multi-release blind spot that exists today.
      • Update the Infer and SBOM jobs for the new toolchain, and regenerate the GraalVM native-image metadata.
