      What do we do here?

      • simply add aliases for variables, SHOW VARIABLES will have both?
      • SHOW VARIABLES only shows old variant, SELECT and SET support both?
      • SHOW VARIABLES only shows new variant, SELECT and SET support both?
        • this will break all tools that do SHOW VARIABLES LIKE 'slave_ddl_exec_mode'
