problems installing mariadb from source

I have been trying to install mariadb 5.4.20 since I can remember, it actually makes me feel if anyone has installed it yet on centos from build.

Anyway, I followed these steps,

and here the error that keeps appearing.

Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)

I can't find mysql.sock file anywhere in my virtualbox.
