Description
Source: MySQL 8.x. Target: MariaDB.
Client: mariadb-dump / mariadb from MariaDB client package on RHEL 9
mariadb-dump copies the INVISIBLE column attribute from a MySQL source verbatim, as MySQL writes it, inside a /*!80023 ... */ version comment.
MariaDB ignores MySQL-style version comments numbered 50700 to 99999 (MDEV-5009), so the attribute is discarded before the parser sees it.
The column is created as a normal visible column.
No error and no warning is raised. The restore completes with exit code 0.
Column data is preserved, because mariadb-dump writes explicit column lists when a table has invisible columns, so the only loss is the attribute itself.
Impact: MySQL to MariaDB migration
A column hidden from SELECT * on the MySQL source is returned by SELECT * when imported to MariaDB.
