      You might want to incorporate my last comment in MDEV-29343 to some documentation. Some of it does not apply to 10.4 or earlier. Before MDEV-21351 (10.5), recovery could run out of memory if the log file is larger than the buffer pool. Also, MDEV-16264 in 10.5 changed the way how the I/O completion callbacks are managed.
