 Description

Connecting to maxscale with dbeaver without specifying a database in the connection string will report "Bad Handshake" to the connector and in the maxscale logs it will say "sent an invalid HandShakeResponse".

According to Support, this is due to our connector needing a database to connect and is expected. We should at least consider throwing a better error if possible, as Bad Handshake is kind of nebulous and non-descriptive.

The error reported by Maxscale:

2021-02-01 21:37:22 error : (15793) [mariadbclient] Client (10.138.0.16) sent an invalid HandShakeResponse.

Looks like a duplicate of MXS-3110, please test with the latest 2.5 release.
