I tested the latest Oracle SQL developer :
Linux Oracle SQL Developer 4.1.0, downloaded from Oracle.
Details about the SQL developer I used.

IDE Version: 12.2.1.0.42.141118.0806
Product ID: oracle.sqldeveloper

Tested with MariaDB 5.5.39 and MaroaDB 10.0.15, it works fine.
The JDBC driver used is mysql-connector-java-5.1.34, downloaded from Oracle MySQL from http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/j/5.1.html

Knowledge Base is Wiki-like system. If you want it to have the information about yes another GUI client you can go and add it yourself.
