 Description

This is a known bug and maybe it is even fixed in the 10.x versions of MariaDB. The corresponding MySQL bugs are:

http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=55556
http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=64821

The bug was fixed in MySQL 5.6.9 and 5.7.0. Would it be possible to backport the bugfix to the 5.5.x branch of the MariaDB?

Thank you.

Yes, it's been fixed in 10.0.

Assigning to sanja (the query cache expert) to decide whether the fix is worth/safe to backport to 5.5.

Fixed in 10.0, 5.5 is EOL so won't be backported.
