I don't know if this is an error or a warning.

storage/oqgraph/Makefile.am:57: `CXXFLAGS' is a user variable, you should not override it;
storage/oqgraph/Makefile.am:57: use `AM_CXXFLAGS' instead.

It complains about:
ORIG_CXXFLAGS = @CXXFLAGS@
CXXFLAGS=

I used the latest code for mariadb 5.2 from bzr

Warning AFAIK. But some of the engine plugin infra was recently changed & cleaned up by Sergei Golubchik.
I'd be interested to learn if you still see it in the latest revs on your build platform.

Messages are still present on current maria/5.2 and maria/5.3. Setting to Minor based on previous comment and the fact that it didn't seem to affect anybody badly over the past 2 years.

This seems to be a pretty much a cosmetic issue in the now obsolete autotools-based build system.
