 Description

I have MySQL Server on port 3306 and MariaDB on port 3308.
I can configure them with old gui tools but with the workbench application,
i cannot configure MariaDB because tabs ( general, Advanced, MyISAM parameters, etc ... except Performance and Misc tabs )
are empty, no information.

The workbench application works perfectly with MySQL
I must named the service MariaDB <MySQL MariaDB> under windows for the gui tools administror tool works.

My PC works under Windows XP Home 32 bits with 4 GB Ram CPY Intel Q9650 Disks 150 GB + 300 GB + 2 TB

I install first MySQL 5.1.47 and i used a modified version of MY.INI to configure and install MariaDB 5.2.4

I'm setting "won't fix" because we can't fix Workbench. There is a MYSQL bug about it http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=61219, which is said to be fixed in the next WB version.

Re: Workbench configuration tabs are empty with MariaDB ( general, etc ... except Performance and Misc )
I've tried to repeat on Ubuntu 10.10 x64, with MariaDB 5.2.6 (from repositories) and MySQL Workbench 5.2.34 .deb package from the official site.

My actions where:
1. Install MySQL
2. Install Workbench
3. Try using Workbench
4. Install MariaDB (this will un-install MySQL and put MariaDB instead)
5. Try using Workbench
5.1 Edit /etc/mysql/my.cnf and try again

On step#3, everything worked ok.

On step #5, workbench has shown me message that

"Configuration file didn't contain section [mysqld], so a new one was added. If
that is not correct, please fix the section name in the Server Instance Editor
and reopen the administrator.

and I couldn't see any options (see attached screenshot)

I looked into /etc/mysql/my.cnf and found it to be MariaDB's file (with MariaDB-specific options, mentions of openquery, etc) . Also, the main section of the file was named [server], not [mysqld].

I assumed that Workbench was confused by MariaDB's .cnf file, so I've edited it until it was very close to MySQL's default configuration file. The message about "Configuration file didn't contain ..." is now gone, however, I still can't see any options except optimizer_switch.

optimizer_switch option looks like this. Workbench allows me to edit it.

Re: Workbench configuration tabs are empty with MariaDB ( general, etc ... except Performance and Misc )
.. That is, I can really change its value and the change gets into the right place in /etc/mysql/my.cnf.

In the corresponding MySQL bug http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=61219, there is an entry that describes the magic

Workbench works as expected, it is only that the options set is dependent on a server
version, so there is 1 valid option for 5.2.6 according to docteam's xml file which
describes mysql options.

this single option is the optimizer_switch. bet it was introduced in the now already forgotten MySQL 5.2
