MariaDB [test]> CREATE TABLE t (a INT) DATA DIRECTORY 'x';
 
ERROR 1103 (42000): Incorrect table name 'x'

Reproducible on 10.2-10.6 and previous versions of MySQL. Fixed at some point in MySQL 8.0.
