By default, MariaDB Installation Package includes HeidiSQL as optional Development IDE. Instead, I suggest including SQLyog Community Edition by default: https://github.com/webyog/sqlyog-community/wiki/Downloads Which has license GNU-2: https://github.com/webyog/sqlyog-community/blob/master/LICENSE.md |

Why are you suggesting it? |

Why? Because the first thing a new MariaDB User sees when starts using MariaDB is the default IDE: And HeidiSQL can not compete with "MySQL Workbench", one of the best IDEs I know. But SQLyog Community Edition (With GPL-v2, therefore, could even be modified by MariaDB Team), is good enough for basic use, and much better than HeidiSQL. So I am suggesting it because I see it as a mean for MariaDB promotion: "MariaDB not only is great software but has a great IDE!" However, I would modify the IDE, and remove the "Update to Enterprise" button that appears at the bottom of it. |

MariaDB Team has already forked "Percona XtraBackup", "SQLyog Community Edition" could also be forked based on GPL-v2 |

Well, maybe you need to speak to SQLyog first, because we are not the ones who remove their Update to Enterprise button. Otherwise, I think the notion that SQLyog is better, is just an opinion. I did some survey back in the day, and I liked HeidiSQL, as many other people also do. More than free version of SQLYog. I liked dbForge, and Navicat better than SQLyog, too. |

https://www.reddit.com/r/PHP/comments/4wpakk/what_is_your_favourite_mysql_client_for_windows/ Both surveys like HeidiSQL more. Maybe you can paste survey where "much better" is more obvious. |

The point I wanted to reach, more than which IDE is better, is that it would be nice that MariaDB Team maintains its own IDE, just as MySQL team does: https://www.mysql.com/products/workbench/ In order to offer a complete solution. And this could had been forked from an existing IDE. However, HeidiSQL also works as a basic IDE... Of course. In conclusion and as a specific action for this issue: I added the "SQLyog Community Edition" at the end of Graphical and Enhanced Clients MariaDB Knowledge Webpage, to give it to know to other users. |

There isn't the interest supporting our own GUI. Community developed versions appear to be supporting MariaDB quite well. |
