I guess per install instructions the actual package is libsnappy1v5.

Correct, it is libsnappy1v5 in Ubuntu 16.04. The dev package is only needed for compiling MariaDB.

libsnappy-dev is need to complete, libsnappy1v5 is needed for install

Builds verified: 1.0.11-1, 1.1.0-1

Verified the columnstoreClusterTest.sh script is checking for libsnappy1v5 for ubuntu.
